5 Star Polar Exploration on Ponant. PONANT, world leader in Polar cruising for more than 15 years, has no less than three luxury expedition ships in Antarctic this 2016-2017 southern summer season, offering a range of itineraries aboard Le Boréal, Le Soléal and Le Lyrial; environmentally responsible French-flag expedition ships that form part of the youngest fleet in the world.
Between November 2016 and February 2017, PONANT is offering 4 outstanding Antarctic itineraries – including a new one – across 16 departure dates to experience a genuine polar safari to observe the region’s unique wildlife in its natural habitat.
Guests gain access to protected sites only accessible to small capacity ships, limited in this region to 200 passengers, while exploring the world’s extreme regions in Five-Star comfort – a unique concept created by PONANT that has become its hallmark. These life-changing voyages include Zodiac outings designed to get adventurous guests as close as possible to nature, with time to linger over the region’s most significant sites.
Flexibility is the key to successful expedition cruising and at any moment the Captain may alter the ship’s course to admire the acrobatics of a humpback whale or land passengers on a beach to meet a particularly impressive penguin colony.
Each voyage is a unique experience made all the more interesting by a specialist expedition team, renowned polar specialists who are delighted to share their views and passion for these southern ice lands which they have been exploring for years.

Queen in Local Waters. Cunard’s magnificent Queen Mary 2 will spend more than a month in local waters in 2018, with her cruise offerings including a stunning 13-night circumnavigation of New Zealand as well as a four-night cruise to South Australia’s Kangaroo Island.
Announcing details of its new 2018 World Voyages program, which goes on sale on April 13, Cunard said overwhelming demand for Queen Mary 2’s shorter cruises from local ports in 2017 had prompted it to schedule more roundtrip cruises from Australia in 2018 as part of the liner’s world cruise itinerary. In all, Australian ports will enjoy 14 calls from Queen Mary 2 and her younger sister Queen Elizabeth during the ships’ 2018 world voyages.
